Horní nádrž Dlouhé Stráně, Hydroelectric reservoir in Loučná nad Desnou, Czech Republic
Horní nádrž Dlouhé Stráně is a reservoir in the Jeseníky Mountains, situated at around 1350 meters elevation to store water for power generation. The basin fills between mountain slopes and creates a calm water surface surrounded by hiking trails.
Construction of the reservoir began in 1978 and finished in 1996 as part of a large energy facility for generating electricity from water power. The project arose during a period when Czechoslovakia was modernizing its infrastructure.
The facility represents a major advancement in Czech engineering, demonstrating the nation's commitment to sustainable energy production through hydroelectric technology.
A paved road leads visitors about 8 kilometers uphill to the water, where you can walk and enjoy the views. The route works for both pedestrians and cyclists and offers chances to explore the surrounding mountain landscape.
Water in the basin is pumped through underground pipes to a hidden power station far below the ground surface, where machines generate electricity. This hidden system makes it one of the more unusual power facilities in the region.
