Chotkův palác

Chotkův Palác is a 19th-century building in Malá Strana blending classical and Empire-style elements throughout its structure. It spans two main stories with a classical street facade and includes a narrower courtyard wing with an attic level above.

The building originated in the early 19th century from the reconstruction of three older baroque houses transformed by an architect into a single Empire-style structure. This transformation marked the shift from older baroque to the contemporary style of that period.

The palace served as home to musicians and artists who shaped Prague's cultural life, with its elegant spaces designed for concerts and social gatherings. The building reflects how the Malá Strana district attracted creative people seeking residence in the city's artistic heart.

The building underwent major renovation work in the 1990s and now serves as an office building housing various diplomatic institutions. Keep in mind this is an active administrative building, so public access may be limited and might require prior permission.

The palace has experienced repeated flooding affecting its lower floors, leading to structural changes made over the centuries to address water damage. These flooding events left their mark on the building and are visible in the reinforcements and repairs implemented.
