Velký Pařezitý rybník, Nature reserve in Řásná, Czech Republic.
Velký Pařezitý rybník is a nature reserve built on a peat bog with a deep pond that reaches about 4.5 meters at its deepest point. The approximately 23.5-hectare site combines open water with marginal wetlands and woodlands of alder and peat birch.
The pond was created in 1565 by Zachariáš z Hradce to supply the town of Telč with water through an artificial channel. This early water engineering shows how people reshaped the land for their needs.
The pond's name refers to the preserved tree stumps at its bottom, which reflect its transformation from forest to water centuries ago. This connection to its past shapes how visitors understand the place today.
Marked trails connect the cottage settlement to the beach area and link with nearby hiking routes in the region. The location at 645 meters elevation means the climate is cooler than in lower areas.
The pond becomes a swimming destination in summer but shifts to an important birdwatching spot during quieter seasons. Its proximity to Telč, a town with historic buildings, makes the area a versatile destination for different interests.
