Údolní nádrž Kružberk, Drinking water reservoir in Opava Region, Czech Republic
The Kružberk Reservoir is a large drinking water supply in the Moravice River valley with sprawling shorelines and open water surfaces. The dam structure forms its core and controls water flow, while the basin spreads across the surrounding landscape.
The reservoir was completed in 1955, following water management plans developed in the early 1930s. It was built to secure the drinking water supply for the region and later expanded to include power generation.
The reservoir sits where two former villages, Medlice and Szternek, once stood before flooding. Walking around the water today, you notice the landscape shaped by what people left behind.
Access to the shoreline is available at several points, with paths that loop around the water and offer different viewpoints. Visitors should note that the area is exposed, and weather conditions can change quickly.
The dam was later fitted with turbines that generate electricity since 1991, giving the structure a dual purpose. This upgrade shows how the original drinking water facility was expanded over time.
