Vyškov Castle

Vyškov Castle is a Renaissance château in Vyškov-Město, featuring a central building with symmetrical wings and stone walls surrounding multiple structures arranged around an inner courtyard. The complex combines original Gothic elements with later Baroque additions, creating a harmonious layout that unfolds across several levels.

The castle originally rose as a Gothic structure but underwent complete transformation between 1665 and 1682 under Karl II von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn. This radical redesign reshaped the complex according to Baroque architectural ideals of the time.

The castle houses a regional museum displaying traditional folk furniture and crafts made by local artisans in the Vyškov area. These objects show how the surrounding community expressed its identity through everyday items and objects, revealing much about local life through the centuries.

Visitors reach the castle most easily through the central square named náměstí Čsl. armády, which provides clear access to the site. Guided tours are available regularly throughout the year and offer insights into the castle's history and museum collections.

The castle earned the nickname 'Moravian Versailles' in the late 17th century due to its grand reconstruction and architectural impact on the region. This name reflects how contemporary observers viewed the transformation as rivaling the splendor of major European royal residences.
