Church of Saints Philip and James, Neoclassical church in Zlín, Czech Republic

The Church of Saints Philip and James is the parish church in central Zlín, built between 1390 and 1420. Its orientation was changed from east to south in the early 19th century, while the tower stayed in its original place. The tower's current form dates from after the 1849 fire.

The original church was built between 1390 and 1420. At the start of the 19th century it was rebuilt and reoriented from east to south because the old building was too small to extend eastward, while the tower stayed in place. Fires in 1819 and 1849 destroyed the roof and damaged the tower, whose present form dates from after the second fire.

The church honors two apostles, Philip and James the Elder, who hold special meaning in Christian tradition. It serves as an active place of worship for the Roman Catholic community in the city.

The church is located on Sadova Street and is easily accessible on foot from the city center. It sits within a protected area of Zlín and can be visited during regular hours.

The two steel bells made in Vítkovice in 1920, Philip and James and the Virgin Mary, were funded by collections among the faithful, a gift from Tomáš Baťa and donations from compatriots abroad. The over-two-tonne bell of Saints Philip and James still hangs in the tower; the Virgin Mary bell rests on the floor of the tower's intermediate level.
