Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Roman Catholic church in Pustkovec, Ostrava, Czech Republic

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius is a Roman Catholic church in Ostrava-Pustkovec, built from 1997 and consecrated in 1998. It has a Greek cross floor plan with four large glazed window areas, a crescent-shaped window above the entrance, and a whitewashed wall behind the altar dominated by a large Baroque polychrome carving of Christ on a cross with upward-pointing arms. The design is by architect Tomáš Černoušek.

Construction began in autumn 1997 under Poruba parish priest Josef Gazda, and Bishop František Lobkowicz consecrated the church on 8 December 1998. It served first as a filial church of the Ostrava-Poruba parish, becoming the parish church of the newly established Pustkovec parish on 1 January 2007.

The church is Roman Catholic, built as a parish church for Pustkovec. Its interior furnishings come largely from the workshop of carver Josef Staněk of Bučovice: a statue of the Virgin Mary, a relief of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Stations of the Cross and a relief of the Sacrifice of Isaac beneath the altar.

The building welcomes visitors during daytime hours and regularly holds religious services for worshippers. It is best to visit when you have time to view the architectural features without hurrying.

The cross behind the altar has its arms pointing upward, a shape unusual in Christianity and matching the Algiz rune. The church bells, cast in 1998 by Josef Tkadlec of Halenkov, hang in a 24-metre bell tower beside the building: St Cyril at 220 kg, St Sylvia at 150 kg and St Methodius at 100 kg.
