Kunžvart

Kunžvart is a castle ruin near Strážný in the Bohemian Forest that sits on two hilltops with stone foundations and medieval masonry remains visible throughout. The ruins include residential structures, defensive towers, and fortification walls spread across the elevated terrain.

The fortress was built in the second half of the 14th century as a defensive stronghold by a local noble family. Over time it was abandoned and fell into decay, leaving only the stone remains we see today on the two peaks.

The ruins attract hikers and history enthusiasts who come to see medieval building techniques typical of the region. It shows how fortifications fit into the landscape and what daily life might have been like for those who lived there.

Reaching the ruins requires sturdy hiking boots and careful footing on uneven stone surfaces. Visitors should stay on marked paths to avoid getting lost and to protect the ancient walls from damage.

The twin-peak layout is unusual for the period and region, as most castles stood on a single summit. This two-peak design may have served a strategic observation function watching over extensive forest territory.
