Kurzova rozhledna

Kurzova rozhledna is a steel observation tower in Pec that rises to approximately 19 meters and is topped with an open viewing platform. From the top, visitors can gaze across the rolling Czech countryside and see across multiple landscape zones on clear days.

The original wooden structure was built in the late 1800s but developed safety problems and was taken down. The steel replacement that followed was completed despite the passing of the person who had conceived the idea.

The tower takes its name from Dr. Vilem Kurz, a local resident who championed the project for the community. Visitors come here today to gain perspective on the land and feel their connection to the region.

This tower is reachable via a marked hiking trail that starts from a local trailhead and involves significant elevation gain along the way. Wear sturdy boots and bring a light to help navigate the stairs safely when climbing.

During World War II, the German army converted this civilian viewpoint into a military post for strategic observation. This wartime repurposing shows how such landmarks suddenly took on new roles during conflict.
