Ledeburský palác, Baroque palace in Malá Strana, Czech Republic
Ledeburský Palace is a baroque building with a wide facade facing Valdštejnské Square, marked by a triangular roofline and details from different eras. The structure blends medieval foundations with later Renaissance and baroque redesigns.
Architect Giovanni Domenico Orsi designed the palace in 1665 on the remains of five medieval houses, which were consolidated after a major fire destroyed this area in 1541. This rebuilding reflects how the neighborhood recovered from that disaster.
The palace is now home to an institution dedicated to protecting Czech monuments, making it a working center for preservation efforts. Visitors can sense how the building itself embodies the importance placed on safeguarding historical structures.
The building is easy to spot from the square since it sits prominently on Valdštejnské Square in the Malá Strana district. Visitors can also explore the adjoining Ledebour Gardens, which feature terraced pathways and climb toward Prague Castle's perimeter.
A marble portal from 1588, saved from one of the original medieval houses on the site, is built into the palace facade and connects the structure to its older past. This preserved element often goes unnoticed but offers a direct link to the place's earlier history.
