Lumbe's villa

Lumbe's villa is an Empire style building located at the corner of Jeléní and Černínská streets, forming part of the Prague Castle complex. The structure displays classical proportions with an elegant baroque portal set within the enclosing wall on its northwest side.

The property was acquired in 1852 by Professor Josef Tadeáš Lumbe, director of the Polytechnic School of Prague, who used it as his private home. It has been registered as a cultural monument since 1964, marking its importance within the Prague Castle complex.

The villa carries the name of Professor Josef Tadeáš Lumbe, who made it his private residence. Today it stands as a protected cultural monument, representing the connection between academic tradition and aristocratic living in the Hradcany district.

The building is not open for regular visits, as it currently serves as an official residence. Visitors can observe the exterior architecture and portal from the surrounding streets, though access to the interior is restricted.

The exterior was repainted from yellow to blue-white following detailed restoration studies that revealed the original color scheme. During modernization, an elevator was installed to replace the original spiral staircase, improving accessibility while preserving the building's character.
