Medník, Mountain summit in Central Bohemia, Czech Republic.
Medník is a summit in Central Bohemia that rises approximately 400 meters above the surrounding landscape. Its slopes are covered with deciduous forests of beech and hornbeam, particularly on the northeastern side.
Protection status was granted to the mountain in 1933, covering about 19 hectares of land. Medieval gold mining took place on the slopes, leaving traces that remain visible today.
The slopes host the only Czech population of a rare flowering plant that draws botanical interest. Visitors can observe how different plant species adapt to the various elevation levels across the mountain.
The summit is accessible via marked hiking trails that start from Pikovice village. Parking is available near the Sázava River bridge for those arriving by car.
A specialized educational trail guides visitors through different vegetation zones and displays the geological formations of the mountain. This pathway makes the natural variations of the terrain directly noticeable.
