Památník Velké Moravy

Památník Velké Moravy is a museum built above the foundations of a 9th-century church and displays archaeological finds from that period. The collection includes pottery, metal objects, bone fragments, and reconstructed items that illustrate how people lived during this era.

This site was an important center during the Great Moravian Empire in the 9th century, as archaeological excavations since the late 19th century have shown. These digs uncovered more than 1,600 burials that provided extensive knowledge about the settlement and its inhabitants.

The museum displays objects from buried graves that show how people in this region lived, including tools, jewelry, and clothing fragments. These artifacts reveal the daily practices and burial customs of inhabitants from over a thousand years ago.

The museum is easily accessible since it is located in the center of Staré Město and can be reached on foot. Visitors should plan for about an hour to see the exhibits, which include both indoor displays and the outdoor excavation site.

The museum follows the story of a man named Mojslav, whose grave was found at the Na Valách cemetery and whose life offers visitors a personal connection to this distant era. Through reconstructions of his burial and belongings, a direct link emerges to a real person who lived more than a thousand years ago.
