Church of the Holy Spirit in Staré Město

The Church of the Holy Spirit in Staré Město is a church building with Late-Gothic and Baroque features, rising approximately 49 meters (160 feet) high as a basilica structure. The construction blends two architectural styles and shapes the streetscape with its distinctive proportions.

This church was built between 1732 and 1737 by architect Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer, replacing a Gothic structure from the 13th century that once stood on the same site. The style change reflects shifting tastes and building techniques across several centuries.
