Statue of Saint Wenceslas, Bronze equestrian monument at Wenceslas Square, Prague, Czech Republic
The statue depicts Saint Wenceslas mounted on a horse, reaching 7.2 meters in height and weighing 5.5 tons with its bronze structure.
Czech independence was declared at this location on October 28, 1918, when Alois Jirásek read the proclamation in front of the monument.
Four additional Czech patron saints stand at the base: Saint Ludmila, Saint Agnes, Saint Prokop, and Saint Adalbert, representing national religious heritage.
The monument stands on a polished granite pedestal with decorative bronze chains installed in 1979 to protect the sculptural group.
The army stallion Ardo served as the actual model for the horse, while sculptor Josef Václav Myslbek worked on the project from 1887 to 1924.
