Festungshübel, Granite summit in Krkonoše Mountains, Czech Republic
Festungshübel is a granite summit in the Krkonose Mountains characterized by striking rock formations that rise approximately 7 meters and sit at an elevation of 1,012 meters (3,320 feet). These distinctive stone towers were shaped by natural weathering over long periods and stand out clearly against the surrounding terrain.
The granite formations developed through erosion processes that shaped the rock over thousands of years, taking their current form during the last ice age. This geological history continues to define the appearance of this mountain area.
The formation belongs to the Krkonoše National Park, where zone III protection regulations permit climbing activities on the granite rocks.
The summit can be reached via a forest path or by following the yellow-marked trail from Spindleruv Mlyn. Bus stops near Davidovy Boudy provide convenient access for most visitors.
The rock formation displays orthogonal joint patterns and woolsack weathering similar to tor formations found in Dartmoor, England. This distinctive geological structure makes the site notable among geology enthusiasts.
