Strašnické divadlo, Theatre in Prague 10, Czech Republic

Strašnické divadlo is a theater building in Prague's tenth district that presents productions throughout the year. Most performances take place in the evening at 19:30 and feature a range of theatrical forms and works.

The building was constructed between 1958 and 1961 to Karel Poličanský's design as a cultural centre with a library and restaurant. Its best-known period came with the Jára Cimrman Theatre, whose 250-seat hall was permanently sold out and which served as the set for the film Nejistá sezóna. In 1992 the Cimrman company left, and the following year the Divadlo Solidarita was founded; in 2006 the building was renamed Strašnické divadlo.

The building on the Solidarita housing estate took its name from the estate itself and was renamed Strašnické divadlo in 2006. Since 2013 Divadlo X10 has staged contemporary drama, staged readings and site-specific projects there, and in 2013 it founded the straš NICE festival, held in the building and the adjoining park.

The building stands at Solidarity 1986/53 on the Solidarita housing estate in Strašnice, Prague 10. The hall seats 250 spectators, and the 1969 and 2006 alterations added a technical booth in the foyer and actor dressing rooms. A low gabled roof was placed over the auditorium in 1996.

The building's entrance portico carries a high ceramic relief by sculptor Valerián Karoušek showing a technician, a young family and a harpist. The hall seated 250 spectators and was regularly sold out during the era of the Jára Cimrman Theatre company, and it later served as a film set for Nejistá sezóna.
