Travertinová kaskáda, Natural monument in Tichá, Czech Republic
Travertine Cascade is a natural monument on the southwestern slope of a hillside in Tichá. Mineral-rich spring water flows downward, depositing limestone and creating a distinctive white terraced formation visible from the surroundings.
This natural formation received official protection as a monument in 1988. The process of mineral-rich water continuously depositing limestone shaped what visitors see today.
Local residents collect water from the spring for making beverages, as the high calcium content adds a particular mineral taste to their drinks.
Visitors should take care on steep or slippery surfaces since mineral deposits can make the ground slick. The site is accessible on foot, though careful footing is recommended.
The spring water creates a white limestone embankment that rises several centimeters above the surrounding ground. Shallow channels have naturally formed at the top where water gradually flows over time.
