Brdo, Observation tower in Roštín, Czech Republic
Brdo is an observation tower in Roštín with a stone structure and triangular floor plan featuring rounded corners that expand toward the ridge line. Inside, an oak staircase with broad landings leads upward, while the viewing platform at the top has glass panels that can open during fine weather.
The tower was designed by architect Svatopluk Sládeček and built between 2001 and October 2004. This project marked the creation of a new observation structure in this mountainous area.
The tower was built using regional materials like sandstone from the Žlutavy quarry and oak wood, reflecting traditional building methods of the Zlín area. Visitors see these local elements throughout the structure and understand how the building preserves the area's craftsmanship.
The tower sits roughly three kilometers from the nearest inhabited area and is difficult to reach, so visitors should be well prepared. There is no electricity or running water on-site, which visitors should consider before attempting the climb.
The tower stands at an elevation where visitors gain a rare perspective of the Chřiby mountain range from a remote hillside location. This setting draws only determined hikers, keeping visitor numbers low and preserving a sense of discovery for those who make the effort to reach it.
