Blücherův palác, Baroque palace in Město, Opava, Czech Republic

Blücherův palác is a Baroque building with architectural elements from different periods located in the city center. The structure incorporates Gothic features from its 15th-century origins alongside later Baroque modifications and interior spaces designed for entertainment.

A Gothic house built by a local priest stood here from 1400; the Šípové z Bránice bought it in 1635 and the Tvorkovští z Kravař family acquired it in 1565, rebuilding it as a Renaissance residence in 1570. Jiří Rudolf Wipplar had it demolished in 1737 and erected the present Baroque palace as a temporary noble residence in Opava.

The palace served as a center of artistic activity in the 18th century, where music performances and theater productions took place regularly. These events shaped the cultural life of the city and attracted notable guests from across the region.

The building is undergoing restoration work to improve public access and restore its theater spaces. Visitors should check current conditions before planning a visit as the interior may have restricted areas during renovation.

Russian Tsar Alexander I visited this palace in 1820 during his travels through the region. This visit by one of Europe's most powerful rulers at the time showed the building's importance as a prestigious destination.
