Stations of the Cross, Christian pilgrimage site on Saint's Hill, Mikulov, Czech Republic
The Stations of the Cross in Mikulov is a religious site on Saint's Hill with fourteen chapels marking an ascending path. The complex also includes a bell tower and the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, which sits at the end of the route.
The site began in 1622 when a cardinal commissioned the first seven chapels following a plague outbreak. Additional chapels were built between 1750 and 1776, completing the full pilgrimage route.
The stations form a pilgrimage route where visitors stop at each chapel to pray and contemplate Christ's final moments. This devotional practice remains active today, drawing people seeking spiritual reflection.
The ascent starts at the base of the hill and can be done at your own pace, with the entire route accessible on foot. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the path climbs steadily and becomes steeper in places.
The Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre predates 1644 and mirrors the architectural design of the original structure in Jerusalem. Its details were intentionally shaped to reflect the distant prototype.
