Břízy tmavé u Raduňských rybníků, Protected grove near Raduňské rybníky, Czech Republic
Břízy tmavé u Raduňských rybníků is a protected grove of dark birch trees near the village of Raduň, with specimens reaching about 24 meters in height. The trees display trunk circumferences ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 meters and are designated as a natural heritage site.
This grove received legal protection in December 1997 when it contained 21 trees. By 2009 and 2010, the number had declined to 11 specimens.
These birches represent the only memorial trees of their kind in the Moravian-Silesian Region, demonstrating the natural heritage preservation efforts in Czech Republic.
The grove is within walking distance from the village of Raduň and easy to reach on foot. Visitors should stay within designated areas and respect the protective zones marked around the trees.
The dark birches here can regenerate through shoots that grow from their root systems, which helps them extend their relatively short natural lifespan. This adaptation allows the grove to maintain itself over many decades.
