Libosad – obora, Natural monument in Jičín, Czech Republic.
This protected area covers 42.2 hectares and encompasses four distinct sections including a linden tree avenue, Libosad park, Valdice game reserve, and a Jewish cemetery with forest stands along Valdicky stream.
The natural monument was officially designated on November 6, 2013, by the Regional Authority of the Hradec Králové Region to protect the habitat of the endangered hermit beetle and preserve historical park structures dating from the 17th century.
The site contains remnants of baroque landscape architecture commissioned by Albrecht von Wallenstein, including a 1.7-kilometer linden avenue that originally connected Jičín to a summer lodge built between 1630 and 1634.
Visitors can access the monument via the red hiking trail from Valdštejn Square in Jičín, approximately 2.3 kilometers away, with nearby railway connections on the Turnov-Hradec Králové line and bus stops at Jičín-Sedličky.
The area serves as a critical habitat for the hermit beetle, whose larvae develop in tree cavities for up to four years, making it one of the few protected sites in the Czech Republic specifically designated for this rare saproxylic species.
