Říhova vila

Říhova villa is a functionalist residence in Smíchov designed with clean lines and horizontal windows spanning the full width of its facade. The structure features multiple terraces arranged across different levels, with a distinctive quarter-circular terrace positioned at the southeastern corner.

Josef Karel Říha built this residence between 1929 and 1930 as his own home, creating an early example of functionalist architecture in the region. The project emerged during a period when this modern movement was gaining influence in Prague.

The building follows Le Corbusier's Five Points of Architecture from 1926, incorporating pillars, roof gardens, open floor plans, and horizontal windows.

The villa sits at Nad Santoškou 1911/1 address directly next to Santoška Park and is easily accessible by public transport from the city center. The stepped arrangement of the building allows visitors to explore different viewpoints and perspectives from various levels.

The building steps down gradually toward the east, creating a gentle transition between elevation levels. This original arrangement once provided residents with sweeping views across Prague's central district and remains a compelling design feature.
