Smíchov

Smíchov is a municipal district on the west bank of the Vltava River, south of Petřín Hill, with two islands situated within its boundaries. The area contains a mix of residential blocks, commercial buildings, and public spaces that form the neighborhood's urban structure.

The district developed from a recreational area with noble estates into a major industrial center during the 19th century. Factories emerged and reshaped the landscape as economic growth transformed the region rapidly.

The district draws residents and visitors from diverse backgrounds and today serves as a vibrant hub for shopping and entertainment. The architecture mixes preserved factory buildings with contemporary shopping centers, reflecting how the neighborhood has evolved over time.

Anděl square serves as the central transportation hub, connecting multiple transit routes and located next to a modern glass building. The district is easy to reach and well-connected to other parts of Prague.

The Staropramen brewery operates from its original location in the district and has produced beer here for generations using time-honored techniques. The facility shows how traditional craft continues within a modern industrial setting.
