Kinského zahrada, Public park on Petřín Hill in Prague, Czech Republic
Kinský Garden is a park on Petřín Hill in Prague that stretches across sloping terrain with ponds, a waterfall, and winding walking paths beneath mature trees and flower beds. The landscape spans from lower streets to higher elevations on the hill.
Rudolf Kinský transformed a medieval vineyard into an English landscape garden during the 1830s. A classical summerhouse designed by Heinrich Koch was placed at the center of this redesigned terrain.
The summerhouse has housed the Ethnographic Museum since 1903, displaying traditional Czech folk costumes, crafts, and everyday objects from different regions. Visitors can explore how people dressed, worked, and lived across Bohemia in earlier times.
The park has multiple entrances connecting streets at lower elevations to the higher areas of Petřín Hill. Comfortable footwear is recommended since the walking paths go uphill through the property.
A tunnel system running beneath the garden once supplied water to two connected ponds through an ingenious circulation system. This hidden infrastructure reveals how 19th-century engineers managed water flow across the sloping terrain.
