Waterfall in Kinského zahrada, Artificial waterfall in Kinského zahrada, Smíchov, Czech Republic.
The waterfall in Kinských zahrada is an artificial cascade that connects two decorative ponds within the English-style park. Water flows through an underground system and drops across multiple levels as it descends.
The waterfall was built between 1827 and 1831 when Prince Rudolf Kinský undertook a major redesign of his garden. This engineering work became part of his larger effort to reshape the landscape on the Petřín slopes.
The waterfall is experienced by visitors as a natural element within the garden landscape, even though it was deliberately engineered. Its sound and movement shape how people move through and remember the space.
Visitors can observe and hear the waterfall while walking along the winding paths throughout the large garden. The best views can be found from several different spots depending on which route you take.
The water is supplied through a long underground tunnel that runs beneath the garden and feeds the cascade. This hidden infrastructure remains out of sight but allows the waterfall to flow naturally as designed.
