Jewish cemetery in Hradec Králové

The Jewish cemetery in Pouchov is a burial ground containing between 100 to 500 gravestones made from marble, granite, limestone, and sandstone. The site covers a significant area and is accessed through a gate, surrounded by an aging stone wall that marks its boundaries.

The cemetery was established in 1877 to serve the Jewish community in Hradec Králové. The community faced a tragic turning point in 1942 when many members were deported to concentration camps.

The gravestones display inscriptions in Hebrew, German, and Czech, showing how the Jewish community here spoke different languages and came from various places. Walking among these stones, you can see the names and words that mattered to families from this region.

The cemetery is located north of the town center and can be accessed through a gate that allows entry to visitors. When visiting, keep in mind that the surrounding wall shows age and the site deserves respectful attention.

The cemetery contains separate sections reserved for children and refugees, reflecting the different circumstances of people buried here. These distinct areas preserve the stories of various groups within the community who found a place of rest.
