Šimkovy sady, Forest park in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic.
Šimkovy sady is a forest park in Hradec Králové with ponds, elevated walkways, and multiple recreational areas. The space includes paved paths, a restaurant area, children's play zones, and a skate park for different activities.
Architect Josef Gočár designed the park in 1925 with massive fortress ramparts in the southern section. These ramparts are remnants of the former fortified town that once stood there.
The park is named after Karel Šimko, a resistance fighter who died here in 1945. His name connects the place to an important moment in the city's recent past.
The park has areas for inline skating, two separate play areas, and a dedicated skate park for different visitors. The paved paths make it easy to navigate and reach all sections.
During times of economic difficulty, the park's construction provided jobs for local residents. This project resembles the Hunger Wall initiative in Prague created for the same purpose.
