Havran, Observation tower in Lesná, Czech Republic
Havran is an observation tower in Lesná built with a steel frame and flat roof that rises about 80 feet (24.4 meters) above the ground. From the top, you can survey rolling forests and distant hills stretching across the landscape below.
The tower was built during the 1980s as a military surveillance station during the Cold War era. Local enthusiasts rescued it from demolition in 2013 and opened it to the public.
The tower represents the transformation of former military installations into public recreational facilities across the Czech-German border region after 1989.
You can reach the tower by hiking trails that connect from nearby starting points, and signs along the way help you find your direction. The climb is moderate and best done in daylight when visibility is good.
On exceptionally clear days, visitors can spot multiple mountain ranges from the platform at once, creating a panorama that stretches far beyond the immediate surroundings. This far-reaching view is unusual for a tower in this region and makes it worth the effort to visit in good weather.
