Hotel Harasov, Cultural monument in Janova Ves, Czech Republic
Hotel Harasov is a two-story brick building in Janova Ves situated beside the Harasov pond, featuring arcades, covered terraces, and a central elevated section topped by a hipped roof. The construction was designed to follow the natural curve of the rock, integrating it harmoniously into the surrounding landscape.
The hotel opened in 1912 under Prince Bedrich Lobkowicz's direction and was designed by builder Karel Novak according to the prince's specifications. It became an important hospitality landmark for the region and gained protection as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1958.
The hotel once served as a gathering place for visitors drawn to the region and shaped the local landscape with its distinctive architecture. Today, the building reminds visitors of an era when such manor hotels were important venues for social gatherings.
Visitors can view the building from outside since it is currently undergoing reconstruction that began in 2019. It is advisable to explore the surroundings and architecture from the exterior, particularly noting the view toward the pond and the rock formation that define the site.
The original design included a hanging bridge connecting directly to sandstone cliffs, linking the hotel to the surrounding rock landscape. The interior contained 26 rooms with balconies and a large communal hall called Máchův sál where guests gathered.
