Klecany Castle, Cultural monument and château in Klecany, Czech Republic

Klecany Castle is a Baroque building in the upper part of Klecany, next to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Its main south facade has two storeys, while the side wings have one. After the 1857 fire, Kašpar Předák's Empire-style repair added a central risalit with ground-floor arcades and an upper storey with a pediment and tympanum carried by columns. A fourth, northern wing was added later.

Klecany existed by 1309, and a fortress there is first documented in 1380; it belonged to the Old Town Prague patrician family Olbramovic until the late 1380s. Václav Vojtěch of Šternberk bought the estate in 1691 and continued building the unfinished Baroque château past 1703, but debts forced him to hand it to creditors in 1713. After fires in 1827 and 1857 it was rebuilt in Empire style to Kašpar Předák's design, and a fourth, northern wing was added later.

The castle's name comes from the village of Klecany, first recorded in 1309 when Lobek of Klecany witnessed a purchase. Empress Maria Theresa stayed here in 1754 and 1757; for one visit Jan Kryštof Clam had a banquet prepared, and a plan of the table with the placement of the dishes survives. In the second half of the 20th century the building served the army and later housed a cinema.

The castle stands in the upper part of Klecany, beside the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is a private building, bought by a company in the 1990s and rebuilt after 2004, and in 2023 it was offered on the real estate market without finding a buyer. Visitors should therefore view it from the outside, from the village lanes and the church surroundings.
