Důl Bohumír, Mining heritage site in Dolní Vernéřovice, Czech Republic.
Důl Bohumír is an underground mine in Dolní Vernéřovice with multiple passages extending about 400 meters in total length. The tunnels display natural rock formations and original equipment that was used during extraction operations.
The mine began operating in the middle of the 19th century, focusing mainly on copper and coal extraction. Production stopped in 1965 when economic factors made continuing work no longer viable.
The place reflects deep mining traditions of the region and shows how workers spent their daily lives underground extracting resources. The preserved tools and spaces tell stories of the skilled labor that defined this community.
Visitors receive helmets, lights, and protective gear before descending into the passages. Tours run daily in July and August, with advance reservation needed for other months.
During the colder months, the mine serves as a winter refuge for several bat species. This is why the passages remain closed from October through spring.
