Church of the Ascension of Christ

The Church of the Ascension of Christ is a pseudo-Romanesque building in Stará Role featuring a prismatic tower and an apse constructed with glazed brick. The structure displays the architectural approach typical of its period with careful attention to decorative materials and form.

The building replaced a small municipal chapel dating to 1823 and was completed in 1908 under architect Hermann Fiedler and builder Alois Sichert. It was originally dedicated as the Jubilee Church of Emperor Franz Joseph and received consecration from Prague's Cardinal Lev Skrbenský.

The interior displays figural paintings by local artist Karl Lehninger showing scenes of Christ's birth and resurrection on the walls. These works give the space a distinctive artistic character that reflects the community's values.

The church is located on Závodu Míru Street with regular religious services open to visitors. Access to the bell tower is available only during special cultural events and celebrations held throughout the year.

The church received its consecration directly from Prague's Cardinal Lev Skrbenský, which was a remarkable honor for a new building in a smaller community. This high-profile blessing reflected its importance at the time of its dedication.
