Church of the Ascension of Christ, Pseudo-Romanesque church in Stará Role, Czech Republic.

The Church of the Ascension of Christ is a neo-Romanesque church in Stará Role, near Karlovy Vary, built in 1908 to a design by architect Hermann Fiedler and erected by builder Alois Sichert. It stands on the site of a wooden chapel with a bell tower dedicated to the Virgin Mary, later replaced by a stone and brick chapel demolished in 1907–1908. A single-storey rectory stands west of the church.

A voluntary association founded on 28 February 1889 raised the money through members' fees, donations, foundations, concerts and theatre performances, and the foundation stone was laid on 29 September 1907. The church, designed by Hermann Fiedler and built by Alois Sichert, was consecrated on 10 October 1909 for the 60th year of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign. It replaced a stone and brick chapel of 1828, itself successor to a wooden chapel with a bell.

The church was built thanks to a voluntary association founded on 28 February 1889, made up of local people who worked without pay; money came from membership fees, donations, foundations, wills, collections, concerts and theatre performances. Founders paid at least 40 K, supporters 20 K a year, active members 2 K. The association dissolved after the church was completed on 25 June 1930, and its records are kept in the State District Archive in Karlovy Vary.

The church stands in Stará Role, west of Karlovy Vary, with a single-storey rectory on its western side. The foundation stone was laid on 29 September 1907 and the church was consecrated on 10 October 1909. Stará Role became a separate parish only after 1909, having been served from Sedlec before.

The foundation stone was laid on 29 September 1907, and inside it a tin box was placed holding copper, nickel, silver and gold coins, a parchment sheet with the association's history and the score of a "Weihlied" likely composed for the occasion. The church was consecrated on 10 October 1909, the 60th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign.
