The Friedrich Schiller memorial is a sandstone monument in the Art Nouveau style, built from ashlar blocks as a semicircular open columned pavilion set into the slope beside the Goethe Trail at the southern edge of Karlovy Vary. Smooth rectangular pillars and columns decorated with reliefs stand on a base and carry a straight profiled lintel with two antique-style masks. On the terrace, a white semicircular flat profile relief of the poet bears the carved inscription "FRIEDRICH SCHILLER"; two stone benches with snake reliefs on their backrests flank it, and the architraves and columns inside carry titles and quotations from Schiller's works.

The Karlovy Vary Beautification Society proposed the memorial in 1905, collecting 150 crowns at its annual meeting and raising the rest over three years. A competition selected Vienna architect Friedrich Ohmann for the overall design, while Karlovy Vary-born sculptor Max Hiller made the relief. It was unveiled on 10 November 1909, the 150th anniversary of Schiller's birth. In 1946 plans to remove the German inscriptions and relief were dropped when the cost proved too high.

The memorial reflects the literary ties between German and Czech artistic communities who visited and shaped the spa town during the 1800s. It marks a shared cultural past that remains visible in the town's architecture and artistic character.

The memorial stands in a central location within the spa district and is easily reached on foot from nearby buildings and streets. Wear comfortable shoes, as the area sits on hillsides with many walking paths throughout the spa grounds.

The sandstone memorial is not a bronze sculpture: it is a semicircular open columned pavilion built into the slope, with a white flat profile relief of Schiller on the terrace. In 1946 the city planned to grind off the German inscriptions and move the relief to a museum, but the quoted 34,000 Kčs exceeded its funds, so the German texts survive.
