Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, Religious chapel in Křinec, Czech Republic.

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on a cemetery north of Křinec, west of Kuncberk, near the crossroads to Žitovlice and Bošín. It is an oriented central octagonal building with a low semicircular presbytery ending in an apse, a square western vestibule with a saddle roof and a small bell turret, and a mansard roof over the central space. The presbytery opens through a portal with a profiled sandstone frame, and each nave wall has one segmentally closed window.

Saint John of Nepomuk was canonized in 1729, prompting the construction of many chapels throughout the Bohemian lands in his honor. This chapel in Křinec belongs to the wave of building that followed this religious proclamation.

The chapel is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk, whose cult spread in the Bohemian lands after his canonization in 1729. Inside, the dome carries paintings of Czech patrons: Saint Norbert, Saint Adalbert, Saint Joseph, Saint Ivan, Saint Sigismund, Saint Vitus, Saint Ludmila and Saint Procopius. The four Church Fathers appear in grisaille on the pillars, and the four Evangelists on the pendentives.

The chapel is located in Křinec and can be visited on foot, ideally with comfortable shoes for the surrounding paths. The interior is compact, so visiting during quieter times helps you take in the details without feeling crowded.

The chapel's low dome was painted, probably in 1753, by V. Kramolín. On the pendentives sit the four Evangelists, and the dome carries eight Bohemian patrons: St Norbert, St Adalbert, St Joseph, St Ivan, St Sigismund, St Vitus, St Ludmila and St Procopius. The church Fathers on the pillars are done in grisaille.
