Old water tower in Mladá Boleslav

The Old Water Tower stands near Vodkova street and displays baroque architectural elements with Renaissance influences throughout its multi-story stone structure. The building was taken out of service in 2019 yet remains a recognizable feature of the city's landscape.

The tower was built in 1723 by builder Mikuláš Rossi following Pavel Ignác Bayer's design and replaced an earlier wooden structure from 1496. This replacement marked a shift toward a more permanent water supply system for the city.

The monument carries official status as a cultural site of the Czech Republic and represents how communities once managed their water supply. It shows a system that served residents daily, before modern plumbing networks became standard.

The tower sits at an easily accessible location in the city and is visible from multiple viewpoints. You can visit it on foot or by bicycle when exploring the old town area.

The tower was originally powered by a waterwheel that pumped water from Podstupenský Spring through wooden pipes. These wood pipes were replaced with cast-iron ones in 1874, marking a significant technical upgrade for the system.
