Hergetova cihelna

Hergetova cihelna is a former brick factory in Malá Strana that now operates as a multipurpose venue with a restaurant, exhibition spaces, and apartments. The building sits directly beside the Vltava River near Charles Bridge, with a riverside terrace overlooking the water.

The building was established as a brick factory in 1781 but suffered damage from several fires during the 1800s that required reconstruction. These incidents shaped the structure's appearance and physical layout over time.

The name traces back to the brick factory that once operated here, and today the site functions as a gathering place for art exhibitions and cultural events. Visitors come to experience contemporary works displayed within rooms that blend industrial heritage with creative expression.

The site is easily walkable from the city center and sits along the Vltava River, making it a natural stop during a stroll through the old town. The restaurant welcomes reservations, and the riverside terrace fills quickly in good weather, so advance booking is helpful.

Outside the building stands an unusual fountain installation with two mechanical figures that create water patterns and often surprise or amuse visitors. This modern artwork was added in the early 2000s and offers a playful contrast to the historical surroundings.
