Luftschloss Belveder with the Chapel of St. John the Baptist

Luftschloss Belveder is a chapel with Gothic features perched on a hilltop near Vysoká. The complex also displays monastery remains and sits in open countryside between Vysoká and Suchdol.

The site began as a Romanesque basilica in the 13th century and underwent significant Gothic changes between 1399 and 1400. These transformations shaped its current appearance and architectural character.

The chapel displays Gothic forms with an irregular floor plan that speaks to centuries of use and adaptation. Visitors can still see how the building was woven into the medieval landscape around it.

The site sits on a hilltop and requires a climb, so sturdy footwear is advisable. The best time to visit is during clear weather when you can see the surrounding landscape from this elevated vantage point.

Archaeological work done during 2007 repairs uncovered evidence that the structures came from multiple building periods. These findings reveal how the site was built up and modified over many centuries.
