Kristek House, Artistic residential building in Černá Pole, Brno, Czech Republic.
Kristek House is a residential building in Brno that artist Lubo Kristek transformed into a large-scale art installation covering the entire facade. The exterior displays painted scenes of a train line, a mechanical clock system with golden gears, and two oversized golden hands emerging from the walls holding a tree.
Artist Lubo Kristek began transforming this ordinary residential building in 2015, completing the project by 2018 as an artistic statement called Sisyfiade. The work emerged from the artist's reflection on philosophy and personal memory connected to the location.
The clock figures on the wall show Sisyphus pushing the boulder eternally, a symbol from ancient Greek myth that appears throughout the artwork. This mythological character represents endless struggle and the search for meaning in everyday life, themes that the artist wanted to make visible to everyone passing by.
The house is located in Cerná Pole and can be reached by tram line 5 from the Zdráhalova stop, which brings you within walking distance. The artwork on the exterior is fully visible from the street, so you can view all the details without special arrangements or access to the interior.
The painted railway line on the facade represents the historic Brno-Tišnov rail route that was active during the artist's childhood years. This personal connection to local transportation history became a key element woven into the larger artistic vision.
