Horní les, Observation tower in Rovečné, Czech Republic

Horní les is a 59-metre steel tower built in 2001–2002 by the company Eurotel, standing at 765 m above sea level about 80 m southwest of the Horní les summit (772.3 m), the highest point of the Svratecká hornatina nature park. A circular staircase of 201 steps leads to the viewing platform at 38 m.

A trigonometric point was marked on the summit in 1824, and by 1918 a survey tower and a lookout called "Rakušanka" were mentioned. A 21-metre trigonometric mast stood from 1936 to 1954, and a 38-metre wooden tower served from 1968–69 until its remains were cleared in 2000. Eurotel built the present 59-metre steel tower in 2001; it opened on 19 April 2002.

The name Horní les refers to the 772.3 m summit of the Svratecká hornatina natural park, whose trigonometric point was marked in 1824. Each April, the Polička branch of the Klub českých turistů Jiřího Gutha-Jarkovského organises a star walk to the tower; anyone arriving between 10:00 and 17:00 receives a commemorative sheet and a stamp showing the tower.

The tower is open free of charge only from 15 April to 15 October. Red trail markers lead up from Rovečné, blue ones from Nyklovice or Vír, and cycle route 5218 passes about 600 m from the tower at the Dudkovice junction. Cars park in Rovečné; the nearest railway station is Bystřice nad Pernštejnem. The viewing platform at 38 m is reached by a circular staircase of 201 steps.

The steel mast was built by the mobile operator Eurotel and opened on 19 April 2002; the viewing platform sits at 38 metres, reached by a circular staircase of 201 steps. In clear weather the peaks of the Austrian Alps, Schneeberg and Göller, can be seen more than 200 km away.
