Teplotechna, Brutalist office building in New Town, Czech Republic

Teplotechna is a six-story brutalist office building in Prague's New Town with a distinctive blue enamel metal facade and green windows. Large bay windows are supported by exposed concrete braces that form an integral part of the building's visual design.

The house was built between 1980 and 1984 on the site of a garden belonging to the neo-Renaissance house No. 1584/II. The design came from Vladimír Machonin and Věra Machoninová, drawn up in 1975–1980, with facade variants submitted in 1980. It originally served mainly as a dormitory for Teplotechna workers, with offices only on the first floor.

The building's name comes from Teplotechna, the heating-technology firm whose workers it originally housed. Its street level has always held shops, while the upper floors served as offices and hotel-type lodging. The blue enamel cladding is shaped into atypical panels, a detail visible from Ječná street.

The building stands at Ječná 39a in Prague 2, New Town, a few steps from Karlovo náměstí and the metro line B station there. Shops occupy the ground floor, offices the first to fifth floors, and hotel-type accommodation the sixth. The two-arm staircase is lit from the street through a glazed wall.

The roof was reshaped from the original design to match the pitched roofs of the surrounding houses, and the facade is clad in atypically shaped blue enamelled sheet metal rather than flat panels. The two bay windows on the front break up the street line.
