The statue of Antonín Dvořák is an over-life-size bronze figure in realistic style, bareheaded and wearing a frock coat, standing on a simple prismatic pedestal of polished granite. A gilded facsimile of the composer's signature marks the front of the plinth, which rests on one step of a larger square base of polished granite slabs in Dvořákovy sady.

The monument was made by local sculptor Karel Kuneš Jr. with architect Adolf Peter, who also designed the surrounding park layout, and was funded with help from the Antonín Dvořák Society. It was unveiled on 7 September 1974 during the Dvořák Karlovy Vary Autumn, on the eve of the composer's birth anniversary and 70 years after his death; pianist Václav Holzknecht performed the unveiling. A statue of Motherhood by the same sculptor had previously stood in the gardens and was moved to Palackého náměstí.

Dvořák's seven stays between 1879 and 1894 were working visits, not spa cures: he came to meet his Berlin publisher Fritz Simrock, the critic Eduard Hanslick, Johannes Brahms, and the local pianists and conductors Alois Janeček, Josef Labitzky and August Labitzky. The monument also recalls the European premiere of his Symphony "From the New World", given in Karlovy Vary in 1894.

The statue stands in the middle of Dvořákovy sady in the city centre, on a polished granite plinth set on a single step of square granite slabs. The gilded facsimile of Dvořák's signature on the front of the plinth is easy to miss; look for it at eye level. The park layout around the monument was designed by architect Adolf Peter.
