Parrot Zoo in Bošovice, Parrot sanctuary in Bošovice, Czech Republic
Parrot Zoo in Bošovice is a specialized facility that houses over 200 parrots representing about 50 different species, each kept in separate aviaries. The collection includes macaws, amazons, cockatoos, and African grey parrots, with each group displaying distinctive behaviors and characteristics.
The project started with Vlastimil Škrhák's parrot breeding work beginning in the 1960s, which grew over several decades. The Škrhák family established the current facility in 2008 and welcomed visitors three years later.
The place functions as a center for learning about bird conservation and natural habitats, where visitors can understand how these species live in the wild. Schools and families regularly visit to join guided tours and hear from people with deep knowledge of the birds.
The facility is open from March through November and offers various amenities to make your visit enjoyable. There is a café, a playground with trampolines, and a touch area where you can interact with sheep and kangaroos.
The collection includes the green-winged macaw, which ranks among the largest flying parrot species in the world. The facility is also home to a colony of emerald conures, the southernmost naturally occurring parrot species.
