Castle Chocomyšl, Gothic fortress turned hunting castle in Chocomyšl, Czech Republic
Castle Chocomyšl is a stone structure with medieval architecture located in western Bohemia. The building features a central tower and residential wings arranged around a rectangular courtyard.
The fortress was originally built as a Gothic structure and then converted into a hunting castle during the 18th century under Czernin family ownership. This transformation marks the shift from defensive to residential purposes.
The castle structure reflects the architectural evolution from medieval defense systems to noble residences of the Baroque period in Bohemia.
The castle is currently used as an agricultural machinery repair facility operated by ZAS Koloveč company. It is not open to the public as a tourist attraction, so visitors can view it from outside only.
The property once housed one of the earliest sugar production facilities in the Czech lands during the industrial period. This overlooked industrial past reveals how the location shifted from a hunting retreat to a manufacturing center.
