Plzeňská brána

Plzeňská brána is a stone gate forming part of Beroun's medieval defensive walls and displays Gothic and Renaissance architectural features. It was built as a strategic control point to manage traffic between the town center and the surrounding countryside.

The gate was built in medieval times as part of Beroun's defensive system and served as a checkpoint for travelers coming from Pilsen. It reflects the era when towns needed to secure their access points to regulate commerce and protect inhabitants.

The gate takes its name from the city of Pilsen, toward which it faces, and reveals how medieval cities controlled movement and trade. Walking through it today shows visitors where merchants and travelers once gathered at the entrance point.

The gate is visible from the outside year-round, with morning light providing the clearest view of the stonework. It sits along the main pathways through the old town and is easy to reach on foot.

The gate still retains original medieval stonework and stands as one of the few preserved city gates in the Central Bohemian region. Its survival over centuries shows the skill of medieval builders who designed structures to last.
