Raubeschloss

Raubeschloss is a castle ruin located in a forested area near Božanov on the Czech-Polish border. The remains include visible ramparts and ditches on a hilltop, which illustrate the original defensive structure of this medieval fortress.

The castle was built in the first half of the 14th century to protect the boundaries of Broumov monastery. It formed part of a network of fortifications that controlled the monastic estates and trade routes in the region.

The ruins reflect medieval fortification methods used to control border regions in Central Europe. Visitors can observe construction techniques typical of structures built to protect trading routes and monastic estates.

Access to the site involves a 600-meter walk from the southwestern edge of Božanov, passing by a sandstone quarry on the path. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and allow time for a leisurely walk through the forest to reach the ruins.

The ruins sit at an elevation where visitors can observe the surrounding landscape from a strategic vantage point. This elevated position reveals why medieval builders chose this location for monitoring the region and controlling passage through the area.
