Poetry jukebox, Interactive poetry installation in Smíchov, Czech Republic
The Poetry Jukebox stands 180 centimeters tall at Hřbitov Malvazinky cemetery, featuring an electronic system that plays recordings of selected poems through speakers.
Ondřej Kobza, a Czech cultural activist, introduced this installation in 2021 as part of his broader initiative to enhance public spaces with interactive art.
The installation contains twenty poems in mp3 format, allowing visitors to connect with literary works by pressing buttons to hear original recordings of poets.
The steel structure weighs 230 kilograms and operates on a 12V DC power supply, incorporating RGB LED lights for clear user interaction at the location.
Each Poetry Jukebox installation receives a specific collection of poems that reflects local literary traditions and cultural perspectives of its surrounding community.
