Svatomikulášská městská zvonice, zvonice kostela sv. Mikuláše v Praze na Malé Straně
The Svatomikulášská městská zvonice is a tall Baroque tower standing beside the Church of Saint Nicholas in Malá Strana. It has a narrow, upright form with a wide cupola roof and defines the skyline of this historic quarter.
The tower was designed in 1704 by architect Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer and completed in 1752. It replaced an older Gothic bell tower and served from the start as both a fire alarm and watchpost for the neighborhood.
The tower takes its name from Saint Nicholas and stands as a defining landmark in the Malá Strana neighborhood. It shapes the character of this historic area and serves as a focal point where locals and visitors naturally gather.
You can climb the spiral staircase of about 215 steps to reach the viewing platform at the top. The stairs are narrow and pass through small historic rooms, so plan for a gradual climb and wear comfortable shoes.
Inside is a rare black kitchen from the 18th century, one of only a few in Prague that visitors can see. It shows how people cooked and lived then, with open fires and simple furnishings.
