Royal Coconut Coast, Coastal region in Kauai, Hawaii.
The Royal Coconut Coast is a coastal region along the eastern shore of Kauai, Hawaii, where sandy beaches, coconut palm groves, and the Wailua River come together in a single stretch of land. The shoreline alternates between open beach and river mouths, with the inland valleys adding depth to the overall landscape.
Ancient Hawaiian chiefs designated the Wailua River area as sacred land and built a series of stone temples along its banks, making it one of the most important ceremonial zones on the island. Later, sugar plantations took hold along the coast and shaped the land for several decades before tourism became the main activity.
The Wailua River valley is one of the most sacred places in old Hawaiian tradition, and stone temple platforms are still visible along its banks today. Walking through the valley, visitors can see how deliberately these sites were placed near the water.
The area sits close to Kauai's main airport, making it one of the more reachable parts of the island for visitors arriving by plane. A wide range of lodging options lines the coast, from small guesthouses to larger hotels near the water.
Seven beach parks line this stretch of coast one after another, all connected by a continuous paved path open to bicycles. This means a visitor can move from beach to beach in a single outing without going back to a car between stops.
